MS Paint is completely free and should already be on your Windows PC (found in the Windows Start menu within the Accessories Folder). If you don't have Paint on your computer, installing it couldn't be simpler. Just download and run the .exe file and MS Paint will open automatically.
The joy of Paint is simply playing around with the tools and seeing what artworks you can create. With a few swooshes, drags and clicks, you can create weird arrangements of overlapping shapes filled with color. You can erase sections, paint and draw freehand lines, and add airbrush effects and text in a range of fonts. You can even add a transparent background.
This is pretty close to ms paint and it works pretty well. My only gripe is that there is no free form select tool within the app, the main reason why I have been downloading and trying many of the mac paint apps.
Seashore is a free, open-source paint application for Mac OS built entirely in Cocoa. While the UI might seem a little dated, the app has a lot of tricks up its sleeves which makes it an upgrade to Preview or Paint Brush. SeaShore introduces the concept of layers, just like you have in Photoshop. The layers work like sheets of acetate stacked upon each other and the transparent areas allow you to see through to the underbidding layers. This allows you to create different layers for different effects and adjusting the effects separately or deleting them separately, thus providing easy management.
I come from a windows background and am very familiar with the simple 'paint' application; I am searching for an equivalent app for my Mac. I have downloaded [free] 'paintbrush for Mac' from the internet but find that it does not have the tools which MS Paint has, and more importantly, I can work only with 2 colors...white an black. Can anyone point out to me any free download that allows me to work in color too?
Further thanks for this additional info. Did get the color working. Shall try out straight lines. Having got used for so many years to MS Paint, I need to get familiar with this or any other similar app on Mac. Right now I have downloaded sketchbookexpress which is a free download from apple store. This seems to be more grand than paintbrush. Let me find out!?
Hello trouble me! Thanks extremely for your willingness to be troubled by troubled people! I have done what you have advised and I feel your answer would 'de-trouble' me! I have not been much satisfied with paintbrush [though I might end up using it] and am looking forwards to working with sketchbookexpress which has just downloaded.

Paintbrush is an ideal choice for people who are looking for a Mac alternative to Microsoft Paint. You just pick the paintbrush and start drawing freely and exactly in the way that you like. It is not a photo editor for sure. It cannot be used as a replacement of Photoshop or other editing software. You can simply use it for drawing or doodling purposes. There is a small toolbox as well. You can select your paintbrush, the eraser, the area selector, as well as a color palette that can be used for your drawings.
